Burnett – Auckland Hospital coped really well with the two AIDS cases this week.. there wasn’t too much hysteria.. the guy off the QEII [cruise ship] has had a lot of support.. the media has been very interested in getting an interview with him

Burnett – he was diagnosed some time ago.. was taking a final cruise.. people in the latter stages of AIDS are not infectious.. he hasn’t exposed anyone.. we should be concerned about people in the community who don’t know they’re infected..

Burnett – in New Zealand, AIDS sufferers will require intensive care.. expansion of facilities.. a preventative campaign will save money.. AIDS Support Network is looking at a budget for next year of $50- $500,000

Burnett – STD clinics.. falls between departments.. progressing slowly in Auckland.. temporary clinics in Wellington and Christchurch.. the majority of the work will have to be done by volunteers..
